I cannot believe that the end of March is just around the corner (It’s tomorrow!!). 2017 is flashing before my eyes and since I want to remember it, here are five personal highlights from the past month.
My friend Jess invited me to join a book club with her and it’s been so fulfilling. We’ve read two books so far. The first one was The Light Between Oceans and I would give it a 7.5/10.
The second was The Hopefuls and I would give it a 6/10.
After we finished reading The Light Between Oceans, we drank coffee in her living room and discussed the book. I came prepared with book club questions. It was a lot of fun to talk about a book after finishing it. We haven’t discussed The Hopefuls in person yet, but I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been thinking about reviewing the books I read on the blog, so let me know if that would be of any interest to you all!
Matthew and I went to a workshop a few weeks ago about fermenting and one of the things we learned about was kombucha. At the end of the class, we received a scoby to make our own kombucha. I made mine on Sunday (stay tuned for the how-to blog post). Due to the fermentation, I have to wait seven to 10 days before I bottle it, but I’m so excited to try it!
Growing my career
I have been given the chance to grow my career in a way I have been only dreamt of. Not only will my blog benefit from this new opportunity, but my whole being will. I will be learning new things, gaining more knowledge about the digital world and encouraged to become a better writer and person. I’m ecstatic and I cannot wait to get started.
This past month, in addition to career opportunities, I’ve been focusing on my blog a lot more. I’ve been trying to better my content and come up with creative ideas. Currently, as I write this, it’s 6:30 am. This week I’ve been getting up two hours earlier to see if it changes/betters my productivity. Stay tuned for Saturday’s post and vlog about my experience.
Spending time with loved ones
I’ve really enjoyed this past month because I’ve had a few adventures and a lot of time with loved ones. Matthew and I spent last Saturday at a friend’s cabin near Idabel Lake and it was beautiful. We went cross-country skiing, had a bonfire, ate lunch and dinner and just spent the day laughing.
Another fun moment was playing board games with friends. I may not win the board games, but it’s a lot of fun spending a night playing a game and using your brain. Plus… no one really uses their phones and that’s a nice treat.
I’ve had a few skype calls with my dad and my good friend Cassandra, who is currently living in Malaysia. BUT, the beauty of a woman is moving back home to British Columbia and I cannot wait to hug her.
Spearheading an event in Kelowna called HERoes
I promise to not be be an asshole to myself. Hell, I promise to love myself. I will remember that my self-worth is not based on what I look like, how much I weigh, how many followers I have, or any other stupid crap that has nothing to do with who I am. I will empower other girls and women. I will be kind. Fiercely kind. #internationalwomensday #jenniferpastiloff #ThebookofMolly
In May I will be holding an event in Kelowna in partnership with the Inspired Word Cafe. It will be a night of sharing poetry, stories and words around the theme Be Bold for Change. The theme is from this year’s International Women’s Day.
I will have a full post about the event when the poster and promotional information is finished. Honestly, I’m scared shitless to be doing this, but I’ve been told to run towards my fears and that’s exactly what I’m doing.
I went to a poetry open mic about a month ago and I thought maybe one day I would speak at one of them. But, I decided I was too scared then my mind said… F*ck that! So, I’ll just hold my own event and host the whole thing.
Since I decided to create this event, I’ve met so many inspiring women who are writers, speakers, graphic designers and photographers. I’ve had powerful conversations about life and personal passions. I cannot wait to share these individuals with the audience at the event.
My heart has been so full lately. It’s been an incredible month of love, growth and passion.
Life will only change when you become more committed to your dreams than you are to your comfort zone.
