I’ve always been told that being outside awakens your soul. It opens you up to different feelings and sensations, and lately I’ve been feeling those things within myself way more than normal. I LOVE IT!
It started off with Kayaking with Akâmihk Adventures a week ago with a friend of mine. He’s never been kayaking, and I wanted him to experience it. I took him on his first canoe ride, so I figured another first was in the books! The paddle was breathtaking, and I felt so calm on the water.
Next I went camping with a friend last Saturday at Paint Lake Provincial Park, where I work part time as a waitress.
Now I’ve always loved camping, as my family used to go every summer in Ontario. I love the smells, the campfire food, but most of all I love falling asleep to the sounds of the outdoors.
Once I got to the campground we started a fire, and made a late dinner. It consisted of cheese sausages (which I didn’t take a picture of because I devoured it), corn on the cob, roast vegetables, and for dessert of course there was a s’more… or two.
My friend and I talked all night, and by midnight I was exhausted and fell asleep in my little tent. I woke up to the sounds of loons, and I instantly smiled at myself, thinking, “This is the life.”
Sunday a group of us rented canoes and we paddled to an island and hung out there for the day. We had burgers and hot dogs, swam in the lake, and just relaxed in the sun.
I didn’t touch my cell phone all day, except to capture these pictures, and it was so refreshing. After the weekend I felt so much more grounded to the earth, and the beauty it has given us.
It’s summertime, and summertime for me means getting out and experiencing new things, soaking up the sun, and appreciating every single second of the heat, because my winter starts in just a few months.
What does summer mean to you?
Because, as the Universe once said, “Playing make-believe is the fastest way to believing… and believing is the fastest way to receiving!”
