I’ve always struggled with the idea of eating meat and have always wanted to have a meatless diet. I have been a vegetarian on and off throughout my life, the longest lasting a year.
I don’t like a lot of meat textures, or the fact that you can see veins from the animals in things like chicken wings. I don’t enjoy the fact that we’re killing animals to eat them, when they’re animals themselves with hearts of their own, who can feel emotions. If I’m such an animals lover, then why am I eating them?
This isn’t a blog post where I push my beliefs on anyone because I am not that type of person but last night I watched Cowspiracy and it changed my life. I heard of the movie and I know a lot of people online have talked about it but I didn’t want to watch it simply because I didn’t want to see any animals slaughtered. I didn’t want to feel guilty because I have a fridge with meat in it, even though I’m starting to only eat plant based foods. There is only one scene for about 3 minutes where I had to shut my eyes, out an the whole hour and a half.
The movie was incredible. It talked about how animal agriculture is killing the planet way more than fossil fuels or anything else combined. After this video I don’t think I will ever eat meat again because I want to do my part in saving the world. One day maybe I’ll get to being vegan but that’s one step at a time.
You should watch it, it’s on Netflix. Here is the trailer:
On that note finding vegetarian food that is delicious can be hard sometimes. Once when I was a vegetarian all I ate was stir-fry and toast and became quite unhealthy. It’s so important to be healthy and be getting all the protein that you need. I can not say it enough but do your research if you plan on not eating meat, it will save your life!
I made a meal the other night that I thought I would share with you all. It was an everything-in-your- fridge pasta.
I fried some peppers, farmers market brussels sprouts, and multi-coloured carrots in a frying pan. I also cooked some pasta in another bowl. After it was all done I tossed the pasta in a tiny bit of olive oil, included some fresh tomatoes and tomato sauce and mixed it all together.
I added some organic cheese to top it off and it was simply delicious and simply simple. I also made enough for lunches which is a plus.
What is your favourite meatless meal? I find a lot of inspiration from Hot for Food Blog.
No animals needs to die to make me live, and that makes me feel good.
