My Self-Love Routine

I haven’t always loved myself and I haven’t always had a self-care routine. I’ve battled with self-harm, self-hate, and self-destruction, but that’s changed now and I’m so excited to share with you how I began to love myself.

Tattoos

Now, this wasn’t one of the first things that helped me reset the switch inside my brain, but it was a major reason why I changed. I have a lot of tattoos. Some people love them and some people hate them. To me, they are a story from a certain time in my life, but they’re also a wall to stop me from self-destruction.

Both of my arms are full of tattoos from my wrist to my elbow for a reason. The tattoos cover scars from my past life and are a constant reminder of how much I’ve grown. I’d rather people ask about my tattoos then stare blankly at my scars. They also stop be from ever going back to the past.

Writing

Writing has always been my way of releasing my thoughts. I have a huge collection of notebooks (usually half full), I have several old blogs all over the interest and now I have The Book of Molly.

Writing is my safe spot. It’s my passion, my hobby and my career. Whenever I’m feeling low, I will write something. After I finish, I always feel lighter.

#ME The Self-Love Reminder

I was gifted this beautiful lavender 100-day self-love journal and it’s changed the game for me. Fawn, the creator of the journal, also struggled with self-love and eventually created this journal to help others.

The journal comes in this gorgeous binder with a spot for cards and a pen inside. There are several pages at the start of the journal that have “qualities of self-love”. I try to read these every morning when I wake up and before I go to bed.

There is also a spot to ask questions like what contributes to your stress, what you do to relax, what you love about yourself, what brings you peace, how you show self-love and your goals.

Every day you have two pages to fill out. The first page includes a to-do list, meal list, goals for tomorrow and several questions to answer:

  1. How Am I feeling today?
  2. Things that will make me happy today?
  3. Self-Love reminder:

The second page is a blank page for notes.

I’ve been writing in this journal for more than a week now and it never leaves my side. It’s been my favourite thing to do as soon as I wake up with my morning coffee. It brings peace to my life and gets me ready for the day.

A bedtime routine

One thing I’ve noticed is that I’m happiest when I’m calm and I’m calmest when I’m organized. Every night before bed I’ve been tidying my house, packing my lunch for the next day, picking out my clothing and setting my alarm.

I’ve also been turning off my cell phone in the evenings, shutting my laptop and reading. I’m currently reading The Rosie Project and I can’t put it down. It’s a nice detox from the phone screen before bed.

Pamper yourself

There is nothing I love more than pampering myself. When I do that, I can feel my self-love skyrocket. Have a hot shower, moisturize your whole body, paint your toes, put on a face mask and braid your hair. Do something that will make you feel good and wrap yourself in the softest pajamas. If you do that, I know you will be hugging yourself tight before bedtime. Trust me!

Spending time with those that fill me with love

If you take anything from this post, I hope it’s this point. You are the owner of your life. You can choose who you spend time with. You are the editor and if you don’t want to do something, you can say no. Crazy thought, right?! Get out that red pen!

This past year I have edited down my life. I spend time with the people who take time for me and want to spend time with me. These are the people that matter. Spend time with them and you will feel full.

If you choose to spend time with energy-sucking, negative people or people who you just feel obligated to be friends with, you will shrink and your shoulders will curve in. You will not be happy.

Life is what you make it. Yes, it’s hard and loving yourself is never easy. It’s always going to be a struggle and it’s always going to be a work in progress. But, don’t stop trying. Work on yourself and you will fall in love with yourself.

My self-love journal asked me if I loved myself. I checked the YES box because even though I have bad days, I am proud of myself. I’ve come a far way and it’s only up from here. I love who I have become.

    My favorite things for self-love are using a few pampering products, warm tea, and writing. It is so relaxing and calming! One habit I want to set in is writing down three things I am grateful for each day.

    I love this. Especially that journal. I feel like I could really use it, but perhaps after a few days it would leave my side and I would forget about it as I do whenever I start journalling! haha But maybe things will be different with this one…

      That’s what usually happens to me! I have so many journals half full. So far this one has stayed attached to my hip! Best of luck when you start journalling again 🙂
