Rise and Shine Yoga

Some people stretch when they first wake up, some people drink coffee, and some (crazy) people do rise and shine yoga first thing in the morning.

That was me this morning… morning being 6:30am.

If anyone knows me they know I am not a morning person. My bed is my best friend and I could stay curled up, all snuggly under my blankets for days and days. I’ve always wished that I was a morning person though. I’ve spent many nights preparing to get up early to either do yoga, run or even just have a nice relaxing breakfast not on the go.

I always end up hitting my snooze button and never waking up and fulfilling my evening dreams of starting my day off right.

Today was a different story.

This morning when my alarm clock went off at 6am I clicked the off button and not the snooze. I climbed out of my bed, into my car and headed to the yoga studio.

Woah.. who I am!?

Over the next month I am going to be trying out several different classes at Tandava Yoga Kelowna. I will be writing about my experiences and which classes I like and don’t like. This week I’ve committed to doing the Rise and Shine classes and vlogging my experience.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect this morning, but I walked into the studio with an open mind and was greeted by Brittany the instructor. She had such a lovely aura surrounding her that I instantly knew I would be welcomed into the space.

The studio is beautiful. There are floor to ceiling windows that show the mountian view and let the sunshine seep into the space.

Brittany’s voice was extremely soothing this morning and the words she spoke I listened to and they stayed within my soul. The class was exactly what I needed this morning and I feel more refreshed than I’ve ever felt this early in the morning.

Throughout the whole hour-long class my mind barely wandered and I felt at peace and full. The class was small with only four people, which made it feel even more safe and secure. I felt like a person and not just a yoga mat. I knew if I wasn’t doing a pose exactly right Brittany would be able to see and come and help me.

My mat was placed in the perfect spot in the room where the sun beamed down on me the whole entire class. It helped lift and wake me up.

Today was day one of the Rise and Shine yoga class and honestly I can’t wait until tomorrow.

I feel happy. I feel full. I feel like one of those (crazy) people that do yoga first thing in the morning, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

    I too am NOT a morning person but have tried to get up early before work to do yoga. I struggle with it but I love my practice so much I find ways to get through it!

    Love it! You are re-writing your story about who you are as a “morning person”! Morning yoga is the fav part of my day! xo

    Yoga is a perfect way to start the day off! Although I am not a morning person, yoga boosts my energy. Great post, Molly!
